Idaho man charged with battery in clash at June 30 Black Lives Matter protest in Boise

A 56-year-old Nampa man was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor battery in connection with an incident at the June 30 Black Lives Matter rally in Boise.

Prosecutors issued a warrant for Robbie Ciolli and he turned himself in at the Ada County Jail, according to a news release from the Boise Police Department. At noon, the jail roster showed that Ciolli was already out of custody.

Boise police officers have been investigating several incidents at the protest via video footage and other evidence, the release said. In early July, police released photos of three persons of interest in investigations — one man and two women. It’s not known whether that man is Ciolli.

Monday’s news release indicated that several cases have now been submitted to Boise prosecutors for review. There were many clashes at the June 30 rally, which saw a large group of counterprotesters show up, many of whom were armed and some of whom shouted white supremacist and neo-Nazi slogans.

The next Black Lives Matter Defund the Police rally is scheduled for Tuesday, and police have said that they will have a robust presence and will be ready to intervene to head off any violence. The release Monday said police “may make immediate arrests for crimes committed in their presence. “
