2 charged after armed robbery at Boise hotel that led to standoff with police

Police arrested and charged two men after an alleged robbery took place Wednesday at a Boise hotel.

Donavan Ferreira, of Boise, and Dylan Kidd, of Kuna, both 20, were booked into the Ada County Jail in connection with a robbery at the Red Lion Hotel, located at 1800 W. Fairview Ave. in Boise.

Ferreira is charged with one count of aggravated assault and Kidd is charged with one count of robbery. Both are felonies.

In a news release Wednesday night, police alleged that Kidd, armed with a gun, went into a hotel room where the victim was staying and robbed him of his wallet, money, phone and a “few grams of marijuana.” The victim, who was injured during the attack, recognized Kidd as another hotel patron. At the scene, Boise Police Lt. Michael Hill told the Statesman that the victim was staying in a room by himself when the robbery took place.

Boise police officers were dispatched to the hotel and arrived at around 4:20 a.m. Police said they learned that Ferreira allegedly pointed a gun at witnesses before they arrived, and they took Ferreira into custody.

After talking to witnesses and victims, police learned there were “additional subjects” who were refusing to come out of their rooms and likely had a weapon, leading to a standoff with police.

At around 10:30 a.m., officers were able to take those hiding into custody, Kidd among them. Police continued to gather evidence before charging Kidd and Ferreira.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it’s possible that additional charges could be filed.

As of Thursday morning, their initial court dates were not available.

Ferreira’s aggravated assault charge carries a maximum prison term of five years. Kidd’s robbery charge carries a prison term of at least five years if he is convicted.

Court records show that Kidd pleaded guilty to a robbery charge in June 2019 before he was sentenced to prison. Kidd’s release from prison was authorized earlier this month.
