Man who hit Boise police officer with car while fleeing gets up to 12 years in prison
Lantz Reeves, 32, who pleaded guilty in March to a pair of felonies that stemmed from an incident that left a Boise Police Department officer injured, was sentenced to to 12 years in prison Monday, a press release from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The January incident led to guilty pleas on charges of fleeing or eluding a peace officer and attempted grand theft. Reeves admitted to evading police when officers tried to serve him with an outstanding warrant. He crashed his vehicle into a utility box while eluding authorities, and then attempted to steal an occupied car. A responding officer was hit and injured as Reeves tried to flee in the second vehicle.
Reeves was originally charged with three misdemeanors and four felonies, but a plea bargain left the two felonies in place.
The officer Reeves hit was treated and released from a Boise hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fourth District Judge Patrick Miller ordered Reeves to serve at least three years before he is eligible for parole. He got a five-year sentence on the fleeing or eluding charge and a seven-year sentence for attempted grand theft, to be served consecutively. With each sentence, 18 months in prison are fixed, the prosecutor’s press release said.
