Former teacher, coach sentenced to probation, 90 days jail for felony injury to child
A former Greenleaf teacher and coach was sentenced Tuesday to probation and 90 days in jail for a felony injury to a child charge. Trevor Douty was initially accused of attempting to have sex with a juvenile but was back in court after a mistrial was declared in the case in May.
District Judge Andrea Courtney sentenced Douty to six years of felony probation after he pleaded guilty to felony injury to child. He has an underlying sentence of three years in prison, which could be imposed if he were to violate his probation. The judge mandated he serve 90 days in county jail and granted him the option of applying for work release.
The injury to child charge was agreed upon after a mistrial in May when Douty was initially charged with attempted lewd conduct with a child younger than age 16.
Douty was initially arrested in September 2018, and he has been out of custody on bond. He will not be required to register as a sex offender with the injury to child conviction.
The investigation into Douty began after the Idaho’s Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received a tip from police in Wilder.
At the time of his arrest, Douty was a teacher at Greenleaf Friends Academy and the boys basketball coach. The academy is a private Christian school for students from pre-K to 12th grade. Douty was not employed there this year.
