Coroner releases identity of Meridian High student killed by vehicle. He was 16

Terry Binder was walking to school when he was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Meridian.

The 16-year-old Meridian High School student, who has now been identified by the Ada County Coroner’s Office, police and family, died early Wednesday after a Blue GMC pickup truck struck him at the intersection of North Ten Mile Road and West Pine Avenue.

“Terry was a great friend, an awesome student, and the most wonderful kid any parent could have,” according to a GoFundMe page created by Binder’s family. The GoFundMe page aims to help pay for funeral arrangements and “other unexpected expenses.”

The incident occurred at around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, Meridian police spokesperson Kelsey Johnston previously told the Idaho Statesman by phone. Binder was crossing to the east side of Ten Mile Road when the northbound pickup truck struck the teen, according to a news release from Meridian police. Binder died at the scene from his injuries, Johnston said.

Meridian High is less than 1 mile from the collision.

Binder’s family called the incident “tragic.”

The coroner’s news release listed Binder’s cause and manner of death as “pending.”

Johnston said the driver stayed at the scene and confirmed Thursday that there have been no charges filed at this time.

Johnston declined to say how fast the driver was going. The speed limit on North Ten Mile Road is 40 mph, according to the Ada County Highway District.
