Meridian High student struck, killed by pickup truck less than 1 mile from school

A Meridian High School student was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

The 16-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of North Ten Mile Road and West Pine Avenue, Meridian police said in a news release. Meridian Police Department responded at around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, spokesperson Kelsey Johnston told the Idaho Statesman by phone.

The teen was crossing to the west side of Ten Mile Road when a blue GMC pickup truck, headed northbound, struck the student, according to a news release from the Meridian Police Department. Meridian High is less than 1 mile from the collision.

The minor died from the injuries at the scene and the family has been notified, Johnston said. She said the driver stayed at the scene, and that there have been no charges filed at this time.

Meridian police have not identified the student.
