Boise-area weather: How much snow did we just get? And how cold is it about to get?
In the words of Smash Mouth (weather forecaster extraordinaire): “It’s a cool place, and they say it gets colder.”
At least, that’s what National Weather Service meteorologist Jackson Macfarlane predicts for the Boise area.
Residents woke up Friday to between three and four inches of snow, which canceled school throughout the Treasure Valley. (The Boise Bench tended to see slightly higher snowfall, while residents in downtown Boise or near the river saw less.)
As of 10 a.m. Friday, more snow was falling near downtown Boise.
While there’s no additional snow predicted in the valley over the weekend, what we do have will likely stick around amid low temperatures in the coming days. Next week, Macfarlane said, temps are set to plummet to their lowest levels this winter.
“Tuesday and Wednesday mornings next week are looking exceptionally cold, potentially with lows in the single digits,” Macfarlane told the Idaho Statesman. “Some models are even taking Boise down to maybe zero degrees.”
