Grab your coats, Boise! Cold front headed to Valley, bringing chilly temps, rain and snow
Grab your coats, hats and scarves because it’s going to be a chilly one! After an almost spring-like week in the 40s, Boise residents should prepare for bitter weather as a cold front heads toward the Treasure Valley.
The system is expected to hit on Thursday evening and spread precipitation across the area late Thursday into Friday morning, according to Bose-based National Weather Service meteorologist Troy Lindquist.
“There’s a good shot of cold air behind this cold front that’s moving through, so look for well below normal temperatures,” Lindquist told the Idaho Statesman by phone.
The weather expert predicted highs hovering a few degrees below freezing and overnight temperatures dipping into the teens, at least through the middle of next week.
Friday will likely start with rain, but as the cold front settles in, it will eventually turn to a mix of snow and rain, Lindquist said.
Skiers will be happy to hear that the mountains will likely get more snow. The forecast showed about 10 inches in the Bogus Basin area this weekend, according to Lindquist.
The meteorologist said a low-pressure system just offshore on the Pacific coast was to blame for the chilly weather.
But don’t expect calmer weather anytime soon. Another system could move in next Wednesday and bring more rain and snow with it.
“That’ll be our next chance of precipitation after the system moves through tonight and Friday,” Lindquist said.
