65-year-old man dies in apparent drowning in Payette River near Idaho park

A 65-year-old man died Wednesday night after he was found unresponsive in the Payette River near Rudy Park, according to the Payette County Sheriff’s Office.

Dispatch received a report at 9:27 p.m. of a man floating in the river near the park in Payette County, authorities said in a press release.

Fire, law enforcement and emergency medical crews responded and pulled the man from the water. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity had not been released as of Friday pending notification of next of kin.

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office told the Idaho Statesman it is still investigating the death. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Responding agencies included the Payette County Sheriff’s Office, Payette County Paramedics, the Payette and New Plymouth fire departments, the Payette Police Department, the Fruitland Police Department and the Payette County Coroner’s Office.
