Coronavirus: Boise’s Women’s and Children’s Alliance to hold virtual fundraiser
A virtual art auction and concert benefiting the Boise Women’s and Children’s Alliance will begin later this month.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, the group’s We Art Women event will be fully virtual. The auction will begin on Thursday, Oct. 22, and end at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to a news release from the WCA.
A virtual concert will air at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. All funds raised will go toward children’s services at the WCA.
WCA says there was a 194% increase in calls to the group’s crisis center in April 2020 compared with April 2019. Intakes for the WCA Emergency Shelter have tripled since the coronavirus pandemic began. In August, the group says 194 protective orders were filed in Ada County.
The concert and auction will benefit at-risk children by giving them a place to stay, health care services and everyday necessities. Donations can also be made.

3 Idaho health districts report over 220 new COVID cases
Of Idaho’s seven public health districts, only three reported new coronavirus statistics Sunday, and the state still added 223 confirmed cases to its total.
One of the districts reporting was the Boise-based Central District Health. Ada County added 80 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, boosting its total to 12,326 and bumping its seven-day average to 83.6 new cases per day. That’s the highest average the county has seen since Aug. 26, when that number was 84.3.
The other two districts were the South Central Public Health and Eastern Idaho Public Health, with the latter reporting 121 new cases. The high weekend total was largely due to 54 new cases in Madison County and 45 new cases in Bonneville County. Jefferson County, also a part of that district, reported 15 cases. No other counties reported double-digit new totals on Sunday.
Officials reported two coronavirus-related deaths, one each in Ada and Canyon counties. As of Sunday, Ada’s death total is now 151 and Canyon’s 103. Idaho has reported 482 deaths.
As of Sunday, 39,845 people in Idaho have tested positive for the virus. Of those confirmed, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare estimates 22,940 have recovered.
IDHW also reported 34 new “probable” cases Sunday, bringing that total to 4,242. As of Sunday, IDHW says 318,167 people have been tested for the coronavirus, with 12.5% of tests returning positive.
