Idaho adds 500 COVID-19 cases Saturday; Ada, Canyon cases up from midweek slowdown
Idaho saw a slight uptick Saturday in reported coronavirus infections from previous days with its two most populous counties nearing 200 new cases each, according to data from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Ada County added 196 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, while Canyon County added 198. A smattering of cases across 20 other counties rounded out the day’s total at 500 additional cases.
Ada County continues to lead the state in coronavirus infections with a total of 6,529 as of Saturday. Canyon County has reported 3,885 cases. Both counties added multiple COVID-19-related deaths earlier in the week, though no new deaths were reported Saturday.
Other cases were reported in the following counties: Boise (4 new, 26 total), Bonner (8 new, 125 total), Bonneville (27 new, 364 total), Elmore (5 new, 135 total), Franklin (1 new, 39 total), Fremont (3 new, 31 total), Gem (3 new, 113 total), Gooding (1 new, 99 total), Idaho (1 new, 23 total), Jefferson: 7 (67 total), Jerome (1 new, 319 total), Kootenai (18 new, 1,247 total), Lincoln (1 new, 42 total), Madison (1 new, 85 total), Nez Perce (2 new, 109 total), Owyhee (6 new, 168 total), Payette (9 new, 254 total), Shoshone (2 new, 40 total), Teton (1 new, 47 total), Twin Falls (5 new, 909 total).
The state reported 36 new “probable” cases Saturday, bringing the total to 1,092 since the pandemic was first reported in Idaho in March. In all, Idaho has diagnosed 16,744 confirmed COVID-19 infections.
To date, 1,052 health care workers have contracted COVID-19, and 5,483 people have been presumed recovered from the disease.

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 723 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 217 admissions to the ICU and 1,052 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 165,132 tests had been completed statewide. About 10.1% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
