Canyon County sees 130 new coronavirus cases Friday; Idaho records 6 new deaths

Data released Friday show that Idaho’s coronavirus count has now surpassed 16,000 cases, with 486 newly confirmed cases for the day and Canyon County leading the way.

Southwest District Health reported 130 new cases for Canyon, bringing the county total to 3,687 and snapping a two-day streak of its caseload being less than 100, after eight straight days of exceeding 100.

Three new deaths were reported in Canyon County as well, and Ada, Elmore and Kootenai counties each reported one new death. Statewide, there have been 148 confirmed deaths as a result of the coronavirus, and 45 of those were in the past 10 days.

Boise-based Central District Health reported 97 new cases in Ada County, bringing its total to 6,333, which leads the state. The county has a mask mandate in place and has banned groups of more than 50 people from gathering. Hospitals have repeatedly warned the district about increased hospitalization numbers.

Ada County has reported at least one death for five days in a row.

The state health department also reported 26 new probable cases Friday, bringing the state’s total of probable cases to 1,056. The state lists 5,251 people as “presumed recovered” from the illness.

Other counties reporting new cases Friday were: Nez Perce 2 (107 total), Latah 7 (61 total), Bannock 27 (263 total), Bingham 11 (151 total), Franklin 3 (38 total), Oneida 1 (9 total), Power 4 (29 total), Boise 3 (22 total), Elmore 4 (130 total), Kootenai 34 (1,229 total), Bonner 9 (117 total), Benewah 1 (31 total), Boundary 2 (29 total), Shoshone 2 (38 total), Twin Falls 39 (904 total), Cassia 19 (367 total), Minidoka 30 (338 total), Jerome 2 (318 total), Gooding 10 (98 total), Lincoln 1 (41 total), Fremont 2 (28 total), Jefferson 6 (60 total), Teton 2 (44 total), Bonneville 19 (337 total), Gem 1 (110 total), Owyhee 6 (162 total), Payette 9 (245 total) and Washington 3 (153 total).

LONG-TERM FACILITIES UPDATE

Health and Welfare posted its weekly update for long-term care facilities Friday, and it showed significant growth in cases.

Outbreaks at long-term care facilities increased by 17 to 92, total cases jumped by 126 to 849 and deaths rose by 12 to 80, with four new facilities recording a death.

Active cases increased to 569 at 63 facilities — up from 453 and 52 last week.

Overland Court in Boise reported its first four deaths and 14 new cases since last week, for a total of 33 cases. The largest ongoing outbreaks are at Caldwell Care of Cascadia (80 cases, 8 deaths) and Copper Springs in Meridian (65 cases, 7 deaths).

DAILY DETAILS

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 709 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 210 admissions to the ICU and 1,033 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.

Testing totals: At the end of the day Friday, Health and Welfare reported that 162,384 tests had been completed statewide. About 10% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
