Idaho’s confirmed coronavirus cases pass 13,500; Ada County sets single-day record (again)

Ada County broke its own single-day record for new confirmed cases of the coronavirus for the second time this week.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare added 345 new cases of COVID-19 to Ada County’s total on Saturday. The previous high was 285 cases set five days ago.

Ada County’s caseload has increased by nearly 153% since the first of the month, growing from 2,146 cases to a state-leading 5,426.

The 345 cases in Ada on Saturday accounted for more than half of the state’s single-day total of 643 new confirmed cases. It is the second-most cases reported in a single day behind the 651 announced Thursday.

Canyon County added 152 cases to push its total to 2,882 — an increase of nearly 252% since July 1. Health and Welfare also announced the 19th death in Canyon County — and the 13th death since July 8. The individual was in their 40s, according to demographics on the IDHW website.

Idaho has lost 120 people to the virus since the start of the pandemic. The case fatality rate is about 0.83%.

Bonneville County, which includes the city of Idaho Falls, posted a single-day record with 42 confirmed cases on Saturday for a total of 245, according to Eastern Idaho Public Health.

The other counties reporting new confirmed cases Saturday were Blaine (2 new, 543 total), Boundary (1 new, 10 total), Cassia (13 new, 318 total), Elmore (3 new, 117 total), Fremont (1 new, 19 total), Gem (7 new, 87 total), Gooding (1 new, 81 total), Jefferson (6 new, 41 total), Jerome (3 new, 306 total), Kootenai (11 new, 969 total), Lemhi (2 new, 6 total), Lincoln (1 new, 40 total), Madison (3 new, 73 total), Minidoka (11 new, 271 total), Nez Perce (1 new, 103 total), Owyhee (10 new, 121 total), Payette (7 new, 212 total), Shoshone (2 new, 21 total), Teton (2 new, 40 total), Twin Falls (12 new, 807 total), Valley (3 new, 34 total) and Washington (2 new, 137 total).

According to Health and Welfare, there are 883 probable cases across the state and 3,989 patients are presumed to have recovered. The state also reported 3,667 new COVID-19 tests on Saturday.

DAILY DETAILS

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 583 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 180 admissions to the ICU and 878 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.

Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 145,303 tests had been completed statewide. About 9.3% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
