Revived Boise Airport flight takes you to California wineries and beyond
The Boise Airport will soon offer nonstop flights to an 11th city in the Golden State with the revival of a route to Northern California wine country.
Alaska Airlines, the airport’s main commercial air carrier, will launch service between Boise and Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California. The North Bay Area seasonal flight for the winter will start Nov. 1 and run almost daily until mid-April 2027.
“This route proved to be highly valued by our passengers when it was previously served, and we’re excited to see it return on Alaska Airlines this November,” Shawna Samuelson, a Boise Airport spokesperson, told the Idaho Statesman in an email. “The restored nonstop connection links two vibrant regions and gives travelers convenient access to California’s wine country and the greater North Bay Area.”
The route makes 18 nonstop flights that Alaska will operate in Boise, well ahead of Southwest Airlines, which flies to 10 cities nonstop.
“Alaska is committed to California, and we’re proud to offer guests across the state even more options for their next vacation or work trip,” Kirsten Amrine, the airline’s vice president of network planning and revenue management, said in a statement. “Whether you’re in Santa Rosa looking for a winter escape to the snow or sun, or a SoCal traveler looking for a convenient alternative to the region’s busiest airports, this expansion has you covered.”
The airline also announced additional routes between Santa Rosa and two other airports, Phoenix and Salt Lake City. In addition, Alaska will add service between Southern California’s Long Beach Airport and Seattle.
The flight to and from Santa Rosa marks its return to Boise after about a year. Avelo Airlines previously offered the route, but ended Boise service last year when the airline accepted a U.S. government contract to operate deportation flights for the Trump administration.
Sonoma County and Boise are on the list of destinations for which Alaska allows passengers enrolled in the airline’s rewards program to check a case of wine for free. The box can include up to 12 bottles and must not exceed 50 pounds.
Southwest offers a similar program at many of the same airports across California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho, the Statesman previously reported. Southwest launched service at Sonoma County Airport in April.
Alaska next month will begin another new local flight, offering a route between Boise and Anchorage, Alaska, the state’s most populous city. When the summer seasonal route starts on June 10, it’ll be the first time that Treasure Valley travelers can fly nonstop to Alaska.
Last year, the Boise Airport shattered its annual passenger record with more than 5.2 million passengers. Through the first quarter of 2026, the airport is tracking about 1.3% ahead of its latest record-breaking year.
