Boise Airport has a new nonstop flight to a popular summer destination
The Boise Airport will welcome a direct flight to Alaska next summer.
Alaska Airlines, the airport’s primary air carrier, announced Thursday that it will add a nonstop flight between Boise and Anchorage, the state’s largest city. Tickets are now available for booking.
It marks the first time that Boise passengers will be able to fly direct to Alaska, according to Boise Airport spokesperson Shawna Samuelson.
Flights between Boise and Anchorage are set to begin in mid-June for service through mid-August, just in time for next summer’s adventuring, Alaska Airlines said in a news release. Alaska is a popular summer destination, and Anchorage is a gateway to nearby glaciers, mountains, wildlife and some of the region’s famed cruises.
The nonstop seasonal route connecting the two cities will run twice weekly, with round trips available on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“We’re excited to make it easier for Boise travelers to get there nonstop this summer,” Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp said in a statement. “This new route creates opportunities for tourism, economic growth and stronger connections between our two communities.”
Anchorage has long been on the short list of priority destinations for the Boise Airport. The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is Alaska’s major hub, making it a jumping-off point for smaller planes to remote areas such as Denali, Kodiak and the Aleutian Islands.
Other nonstop destinations the Boise Airport still hopes to add include Orlando; Boston; New York City; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Washington, D.C.
With the new route to Anchorage, the Boise Airport will provide nonstop flights to 27 destinations. The top 15 most frequented routes all feature nonstop flights, and Alaska Airlines offers direct service on the majority of those.
