A long-debated trucking terminal is moving forward, potentially with funds from the Capital City Development Corp., Boise’s urban-renewal agency.

The CCDC board of commissioners has authorized the agency’s staff to create a participation agreement for Ohio-based R+L Carriers, the trucking company that wants to build a terminal at 9100 S. Eisenman Road.

The project, located in the Gateway East urban renewal district, would have 74,000 square feet spread across three structures, including a 60,000-square-foot freight terminal and dock, a 5,000-square-foot office building and a 9,000-square-foot maintenance building. It is estimated to be completed in Spring 2021.

If approved, that agreement would mean the project would be eligible for $285,000 in public improvement reimbursements, according to the board’s April 13 meeting agenda. That money would go toward frontage improvements on the street and extensions to the water and sewer lines.

In 2018, the residents of Blue Valley, a mobile home park near Eisenman Road, across Interstate 84 from Micron, fought a proposed trucking terminal north of them. Then-Mayor David Bieter arranged a land swap in 2019 that moved the terminal site away from the community.
