Homeowners in Northwest Boise rally to oppose more development as opens spaces vanish
The latest proposed developments, other construction projects and new businesses around the Treasure Valley:
The Prominence subdivision will be before the Boise City Planning and Zoning Commission at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13. The subdivision would have 287 townhouses, single-family homes and apartments on both sides of West Hill Road Parkway near Bogart Lane in Northwest Boise. WHPacific is seeking a rezone of 38 acres from R-1A (single family residential with 2.1 units per acre) to R-1C/DA (single family residential with 8 units per acre with a development agreement. WHPacific is also seeking a conditional use permit for the development.
Two pedestrian hybrid beacons are planned for Boise’s North West neighborhood. If the Prominence subdivision is approved, one will be at the intersection of Hill Road Parkway and Bogart Lane and will be required at the beginning of construction. The other will be required as the second phase on construction begins. That beacon will be at the intersection of Hill Road Parkway and Duncan Lane.
The Ada County Highway District plans to install a pedestrian refuge island in the median of Broadway Avenue South at the entrance to Dona Larsen Park. The median would include a pedestrian hybrid beacon — a pedestrian-activated stop light — across Broadway. This project also includes a pathway from the existing Dona Larsen parking lot northeast to Warm Springs Avenue and a rectangular rapid-flashing beacon on Warm Springs Ave on the east side of Avenue C.
Sterling Homes is looking to build a seven-unit townhouse at 11251 W. Gabrielle Drive, south of Fairview Avenue between Five Mile and Cloverdale roads. Each unit will have 1,171 square feet spread over two floors. The townhouse building is planned as the first phase of a multibuilding complex.
Bauerhaus Bike plans to open a shop at 4001 W. Hill Road, where Amie’s Upholstery used to operate.
Wildflower is working to move its shop from 1009 W. Bannock St., to an old gas station at 2753 W. State St. The building, built in 1954, was annexed into the city eight years later.
The city of Boise is seeking a conditional use permit for a height exception to build a four-story, 65-foot-high parking garage at the Boise Airport. The garage would have 567 car spaces and 30 bicycle spaces. Plans also call for an added concourse.
The city of Boise is proposing changes to its ordinance governing accessory dwelling units on homeowners’ property. To boost the availability of housing, the city proposed to increase the maximum size of these living units, allow a second bedroom and remove parking requirements for units that have only one bedroom. Myrtle St. in Downtown’s Central Addition neighborhood to clear the way for Collegiate Development Group’s proposed 240-unit apartment or condominium building. Trilogy Idaho is seeking to build the second phase of its Roe Street Townhouses project at 6058 N. Roe St., north of State Street and west of Gary Lane in northwest Boise. A public hearing before the Design Review Committee is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Boise City Hall, 150 N. Capitol Blvd. Sixty-six two-story homes are planned in 12 buildings. CBH Homes is the construction contractor and will handle sales.
ALC Architecture proposes to build a single-story Grace Anglican Church at 2490 N. Milwaukee St. A public hearing before the Design Review Committee is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Boise City Hall, 150 N. Capitol Blvd.
The Land Group requests rezonings of about 24 acres to permit a subdivision of 136 townhouses and 6 single-family homes with some commercial uses at 10790 W. Hatch Design Architecture proposes to rezone three parcels comprising 8 acres at 10785, 10803 and 10891 W. Lake Hazel Road to build six multitenant buildings totaling 52,000 square feet. The Fairview Cemetery District proposes to subdivide 1 acre at 7860 W. McMillan Road, near the northeast corner of McMillan and Star roads, into 580 burial lots for an expansion of its Fairview Cemetery. The Ada County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at 200 W. Front St., Boise.
Farmland in southwest Caldwell could soon be converted into residential land. Greencastle Building, based in Star, seeks to take 15 acres of agricultural land in Caldwell and turn it into 29 single-family homes, each on a 0.4 acre lot, at the northwest corner of West Linden Street and Farmway Road. About 10% of the development would be reserved for green space. The land is owned by Jay Walker, of Eagle.
Trilogy Development of Boise seeks to construct 39 single-family homes on 6 acres in southeast Caldwell, near the southeast intersection of Indiana Avenue and East Linden Street. The development, called Hampshire Place, would be at the southwest corner of East Beech Street and South Georgia Avenue. Plans include a basketball court, a gazebo and barbeque area, and a children’s playground. The property is owned by Glenn McBride Jr.
Tango’s Empanadas will open a Meridian restaurant at 46 E. Fairview Ave. The new location will be 3,875 square feet, and Tango’s is making $72,000 in improvements to the space. This will be the Argentinian restaurant’s third brick-and-mortar store in the Treasure Valley.
Beauté + Ink, a beauty salon that offers makeup consultations, spray tans and facials, will host a grand opening from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10, at 717 N. Main St. in downtown Meridian. The business will be open every day by appointment. The salon is owned by Kryssa Gough of Meridian and Jodi Wolverton of Boise, who both previously owned separate cosmetology businesses.
