This 35-year-old Boise restaurant closed to move. It’s about to reopen in Meridian
A longtime Vietnamese restaurant that closed in Boise is about to be reborn in Meridian.
And soon.
Dong Khanh Vietnamese Restaurant, a staple for years at 1237 S. Broadway Ave., is moving into a newly constructed building at 1584 S. Topaz Ave., right off Overland Road.
Taking over suite 100, the restaurant plans to hold its grand opening July 16, according to a voicemail message that refers to the new business as DK Vietnamese.
Owner Vuong Nguyen confirmed that intention in a message Wednesday. But he added that the restaurant hasn’t received its occupancy permit from the city yet, so it’s possible the July 16 date could be bumped slightly.
In other words, it might be prudent to call ahead before immediately mad-dashing to the new location ravenous for a steaming bowl of pho.
Dong Khanh debuted in 1991, according to Idaho Statesman archives, and has changed owners and locations over time. The restaurant occupied the end of a Broadway Avenue strip mall near Front Street before moving south to its recently shuttered Boise spot.
The Meridian restaurant will take up 2,857 square feet and have a capacity of 138, according to permits filed with the city.
Dong Khanh is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google and 4.1 out of 5 on Yelp. “#22 beef has never done me wrong,” a recent Yelp reviewer wrote, “and I will always highly recommend it. Price, taste, service — everything was on point. This place does not get the recognition it deserves.”
On social media, Idahoans have lamented the closure of the Boise restaurant while looking forward to the new restaurant.
“Our family will be at the door waiting for their cha gio and spicy chicken!” one Facebook commenter wrote.
