This new Meridian sandwich shop is ‘fantastic.’ Best of all? $5 subs all weekend

A popular restaurant chain that made its Idaho debut last year unveiled a second Gem State location days ago.

And Meridian is eating it up.

Slicing subs and cutting ribbons (the grand opening kind), Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop welcomed customers Tuesday at 179 S. Ten Mile Road, suite 130. A handful of excited reviews have already popped up on Google, where it’s rated 5 out of 5 stars.

“I had the cheesesteak BLT,” one reviewer raved. “It was amazing.”

“Absolutely fantastic sandos,” another wrote. “I have been coming to Capriotti’s for years in Utah, this store absolutely knocked it out of the park!”

Is your mouth watering yet? Good news. You can pick up a sandwich for five bucks this weekend.

Capriotti’s was founded 50 years ago. To celebrate the half-century birthday, all Capriotti’s Rewards members can purchase any 8-inch small cold sub for $5 on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14 — nationwide.

Capriotti’s was founded in Delaware, but some Idahoans know its sandwiches from its headquarters in Las Vegas.

“From the iconic Bobbie — voted ‘Greatest Sandwich in America’ — to the classic Italian, Homemade Turkey, American Wagyu Roast Beef, and more, there’s an extraordinary sub for every taste,” a press release says.

Capriotti’s is known for The Bobbie. A turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce masterpiece, it tastes like a refrigerator raid the day after Thanksgiving. Especially if you request a cup of gravy on the side. (They don’t always have it, but do it. Just in case.)

Another winner? The Capastrami: hot pastrami, melted Swiss cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing.

Capriotti’s competes with national chains such as Jersey Mike’s and Firehouse Subs. But the brand prides itself in a certain level of fast-casual quality.

“Staying true to its roots, Capriotti’s slow roasts whole Butterball turkeys in-house daily and hand pulls them each morning to deliver unmatched flavor and freshness,” the release says. “With more than 150 locations across the U.S., the brand … continues to expand across the nation and has been ranked on ‘Fast Casual’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers’ list.”

Headquartered in Las Vegas, Capriotti’s is steadily edging into the Boise area. It opened a Star restaurant last year at 200 N. Highbrook Way. A third Capriotti’s is planned for the Treasure Valley, a spokesperson previously told the Statesman. Its location hasn’t been revealed.
