After ‘record-breaking’ year, this chain closed its only Idaho restaurant. In Boise

If you’re craving a huge, foldable slice of cheesy New York-style pizza, there are options in Boise.

Just one less nowadays.

Sbarro has closed its only Idaho location, which was at the food court inside Boise Towne Square mall, 350 N. Milwaukee St.

The Boise Towne Square restaurant had been open since at least 2019, according to Idaho Statesman archives. It’s unclear why the lid ultimately fell off the mozzarella shaker at this store. A message to Boise Towne Square public relations was not immediately returned.

Established in 1956 in Brooklyn, Sbarro brands its food as “the original XL NY-style pizza and stromboli.” Although it has two bankruptcy protection filings in its past, Sbarro has been on an expansion tear in recent years as king of the mall slice. A January article from industry publication PMQ Pizza trumpeted that “a record-breaking year of growth has put this chain on the fast track for 2026.”

“Sbarro’s resurgence,” it said, “... continued in 2025 as the chain opened more than 100 new restaurants worldwide, including 38 in the U.S. and 63 internationally. The brand now operates 827 stores in 27 countries.”

A greasy slice of food-court pizza certainly has its place in the guilty-pleasure universe, but Sbarro might not be missed that much. The Boise Towne Square pizzeria was rated a lukewarm 3.5 out of 5 stars by Google reviewers. (It did sell beer, however, which is such a crucial survival tool if you must endure the mall.)

If you’re craving a New York-style slice? The Boise area has quality locally owned pizza choices. Standouts include Guido’s, Lulu’s, Americana and Johnny Bronx.
