New to the Boise area, this Portland-based burger chain ‘ain’t playin’ around’

Another burger chain is expanding to the Boise area, and I know what you’re thinking. Your jaded rolling eyes give it away.

Killer.”

You’re absolutely correct.

In mouthwatering news, Killer Burger is bringing its meaty hipness to the Treasure Valley. The Portland-based brand is planning to open a roughly 2,500-square-foot restaurant at 79 S. Ten Mile Road — in Meridian, naturally, land of all chains.

Killer Burger will be part of a mixed-use development near the intersection with Franklin Road.

Franchisee Dave Edwards said the target opening date for Killer Burger is “either just before or shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.”

For hamburger enthusiasts, it might feel like an early Christmas present.

On the subreddit r/cheeseburgers — yes, that exists — there’s a thread titled “Killer Burger, Portland, Oregon.” Using flame emojis, one Redditor proclaims that, “Killer Burger is (fire). They ain’t playin’ around.”

Killer’s menu is a bit pricier than, say, In-N-Out. But it delivers a formidable product. It’s won “best burger” in multiple markets, an achievement it highlights on its website.

Killer’s most eye-catching concoction is the Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon burger, which is 1,540 calories when ordered in its standard Original size. But pretty much every Killer burger is loaded with bacon. That includes the green chile-laced Jose Mendoza, the barbecue-inspired Motley Que, even the mushroom-fueled Fun Guy.

Burgers are sold in three weights: Pint Size (“all the party on a smaller patty”), Original (“1/3-pound beef patty and bacon in every bite”) and Double (add a patty, “for bigger appetites”). For a Motley Que at the Hayden restaurant — the only other Killer Burger location in Idaho — that translates to $9.95, $11.05 or $14.70. All hamburgers come with fries. And according to that same Reddit conversation? “The fries are a pleasant surprise, too.”

Not in the mood for beef? Killer Burger also serves chicken sandwiches and tenders.

Killer takes dipping sauces seriously, too. There are eight varieties. They range from House and Peanut Butter sauces to spicy habanero-and-honey-laced Bomb Sauce.

Idahoans will be able to sip a cold one while wolfing down a Killer Burger. The restaurant will serve beer, Edwards said. Oh, and milkshakes, too.

Hoping to keep costs down a little? Check out the $11 Killer Box Lunch: a Pint-sized burger, small fries and fountain drink for 11 bucks. That offer is available from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The shell build has begun for Meridian’s Killer Burger, Edwards said, “and we hope to begin our construction this coming August.”

“We’re very excited for the opportunity!” he said.

Founded in 2010, Killer Burger has grown to more than two dozen locations, mostly in the Northwest but as far east as Texas. The one in Hayden opened five years ago.
