This restaurant was ‘go-to’ takeout for Meridian. Now it’s opening in Boise
When Wei’s Cantonese left its Meridian ghost-kitchen building and paused business — vowing to seek another location later — fans were understandably disappointed.
“This had been our go-to Chinese takeout,” a Google reviewer wrote last year. “... My family and I have loved this takeout place, and we are sad to see that they will be closing at the end of the month. Happy they get to go to China for a much-deserved break and hope when you return, you’ll still be in the Meridian area.”
Good news — at least for Boise. Wei’s is back.
Firing up woks at another cloud-kitchen operation, Wei’s announced it will open Friday, March 27, at West End Food Co, 1744 W. Main St. Wei’s joins three other local brands at the downtown Boise takeout/delivery operation: Mai Thai, Uncle Chai Bento Box Kitchen and Pho Tay Vietnamese Cuisine.
(West End’s only non-Asian option, Toros Tacos, recently jumped ship. It’s now a brick-and-mortar in the basement of Shrine Social Club, 1118 W. Idaho St., and still a Nampa food truck.)
At Meridian’s now-defunct Crave Delivery collective, Wei’s menu was marketed as “inspired by dishes that have been passed down from generation after generation.” Reviewers on Google, where Wei’s rates 4.5 out of 5 stars, described it as “the kind of meal that makes you do a happy food dance.” And “reasonably priced, huge portions.”
When it comes to Chinese food — well, any food — opinions can vary wildly. But with a menu that offers everything from stir-fry and soups to family-feeding combos, Wei’s Cantonese should pique the interest of any Boisean hunting for their own favorite takeout.
“This literally just made me so happy I may cry,” a Facebook commenter gushed about Wei’s return. “And now you’re close to me! Our family talks about you all the time and how much we miss it!”
