Opening 6th Boise-area restaurant, chain to give 100 patrons free food for a year

When Panera Bread opened its first Treasure Valley bakery-cafe in 2015, in Nampa, it was major Idaho restaurant news.

More than a decade later? Even with locations scattered across the Boise area, a new Panera Bread is still kind of a big deal. At least for fans.

Especially ones who arrive bright and early on opening day.

The Missouri-based chain’s sixth area location opens at 6 a.m. Wednesday. And to celebrate, it will give the first 100 patrons “free meals for a year.”

The new Panera Bread — at 1500 E. Deer Flat Road, suite 102 — will be Kuna’s first. Serving the brand’s familiar fast-casual sandwiches, soups and salads, it will be a “modern cafe experience,” a press release brags, with “digital ordering and mobile pick-up lane convenience, ideal for order-ahead.” That means you can take a seat and dine on site, grab takeout or order third-party delivery.

For those who do score the free meal deal, here’s the scoop: They get 12 meals total. Once a month, they can use a code through the MyPanera rewards program to redeem a You Pick Two meal, “allowing them to mix and match soups, salads, and sandwiches throughout the year,” the press release said.

The new Panera Bread expects to employ 25 to 30 staffers, according to the release. Store hours: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
