Serving an odd take on America’s favorite food, this Meridian restaurant closed

For many, pizza borders on a religious experience. Even without the Harris Poll from a couple of years ago, we innately know: It’s America’s favorite food.

(At least until somebody busts out tacos on a Tuesday.)

Either way, it hasn’t stopped Coned Pizza from successfully messin’ with our sacred slice.

Combining pizza’s warm, gooey deliciousness with the handheld convenience of an ice cream cone, the local business has grown its fun, quirky brand from food cart to food trucks and, finally, a Meridian brick-and-mortar that opened in 2018.

But as of last week, Coned Pizza’s restaurant is no more. It recently closed permanently at 2976 E. Overland Road, near the intersection with Eagle Road. (Some Idahoans might also remember a now-defunct downtown Boise location.)

But if you’re worried the cone you bought at Boise State’s last regular season home football game was your final taste? It wasn’t. Coned Pizza’s cheesy concoctions will still be sold at sports events, festivals and beyond.

Coned Pizza serves both Idaho and Montana, according to its website.

Coned Pizza will continue serving through mobile catering, concession operations and its food trucks, owners Tyler and Marina Blake wrote on Facebook.

“This has been our strongest lane from day one, and we’re ready to put our energy toward bigger opportunities and growth,” they explained in the announcement. “Back when we launched Coned, we were just two 20something-year-olds with unlimited time and the ability to work around the clock.

“Now, years later, we’re parents to a toddler and a newborn, and life has changed. This shift isn’t about stepping back. It’s about growing differently, in a way that allows us to be more present for our kids while continuing to push the business forward where it naturally thrives.”

To find a cone, Idahoans will have to keep their eyes peeled. Coned Pizza does not plan to have a food truck stationed anywhere permanently, it shared in a Facebook reply.
