Want dessert? Make it yourself! And pay by weight at this chain coming to Boise

A sweet national chain has the lucrative Boise market in its crosshairs.

Yogurtland, which calls itself “the nation’s leading self-serve frozen yogurt brand,” has inked a franchise agreement for Idaho expansion. BMG Ventures, LLC — already a brand partner, according to a press release — has signed a three-store agreement to open locations in Boise, Nampa and Caldwell.

(Whaaat? A chain not opening in Meridian? We’ll see.)

Because the deal is so fresh, specific sites haven’t been confirmed yet, according to Cheri Herlinger, a publicist for Yogurtland.

When customers roll into Yogurtland for a treat, they head to self-serve dispensers and fill their own cups with various frozen yogurt flavors. (Mmmm, peppermint mocha for the holidays.) You can mix-and-match dairy, non-dairy, no-sugar-added. Sweet, tart — whatever you want.

Then you pile on toppings: all kinds of candy, fresh fruit and more.

At the end? You lug, er, carry the cup to the register and pay for the heaping (or not) creation by weight.

Yogurtland isn’t the only yogurt chain to employ a self-serve concept. But with more than 220 locations in the United States and abroad, its impact definitely will be felt in the frozen dessert category in the Treasure Valley.

Other points provided in a message from Herlinger:

“Since 2006, Yogurtland has been the leading frozen yogurt chain, delivering over 200 handcrafted artisan flavors and providing fans an anytime treat for the whole family.”

“Yogurtland has a team of flavorologists that exclusively use real ingredients and scratch-made, handcrafted flavors from across the globe for fans to enjoy a truly customized frozen dessert. The company’s premium frozen yogurt and delicious toppings are available through delivery, pickup, or catering, giving customers more flexibility to enjoy dessert for any occasion wherever they are.”
