This Meridian sports bar and grill has two locations. The original is closing

The gig is up for Giggy D’s.

The sports bar with the quirky name will close its original Meridian location Tuesday. Opened four years ago, the restaurant took over a former Beef O’Brady’s at 1505 S. Eagle Road, near the intersection with Overland Road.

A second Giggy D’s will remain open in the Orchard Park development at Chinden Boulevard and Linder Road. It opened in 2023.

Giggy D’s provided no reason for closing its Eagle Road restaurant in a short social media announcement. “After four amazing years of serving our community, creating a family-friendly space to watch sports, have fun, and cheer on your favorite teams, we have some bittersweet news,” it wrote. But replying to customer comments, Giggy D’s pointed to rent-related considerations.

“The decision to close our doors comes down to our lease is ending, and due to the current condition of the premises, we are not willing to commit to another 5–10 year agreement. Our goal has always been to relocate Giggy D’s Overland to a more prominent location, but we’ve faced challenges in making that happen.”

Oh, and in case you were wondering? Giggy D’s has nothing to do with “giggity.” You know, the pervy, hilarious catchphrase of Glenn Quagmire, a character on the long-running animated TV series “Family Guy.”

Instead, the local brand is named after a catering business from decades ago, Managing Partner Jenny Calzaretta told the Idaho Statesman in 2021.

Giggy D’s has become a familiar sports bar and grill in Meridian since transitioning from a Beef O’Brady’s in December 2021.
