What exactly IS this new Meridian restaurant? ‘Definitely a must try’
If you crave ice cream after seeing a customer in Meridian’s Orchard Park carrying takeout this week, look closer.
Yo, those aren’t ice cream cones.
OK, they’re shaped like ice cream cones. They might even contain something not unlike ice cream, such as custard or yogurt.
But that filling also could be eggs, bacon and cheese. Pork belly and kimchi. Or all the ingredients of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich.
Eight Turn Crepe, a new quick-service restaurant at 1582 W. Orchard Park Drive, serves Japanese cone-style crepes.
Or, as the New York City-based franchise chain calls them, “something delicious.”
The store — Eight Turn Crepe’s first in the Gem State — began welcoming customers Tuesday. There’s a grand opening this weekend. Idahoans will get their first taste of the crepes, which are handmade from rice flour before being formed into cones, and then loaded with stuff.
The plethora of options is divided into two main categories.
There’s sweet. Think something like the Matcha Stripe Chocolate Crepe (strawberries, hazelnuts, chocolate truffles, matcha custard, whipped yogurt, chocolate sauce, $10.50). Or a Strawberry Banana Crepe (strawberries, banana, almonds, pistachios, custard cream, whipped yogurt, $10.50).
There’s also savory. That would include the breakfast-ready Bacon & Egg & Cheese Crepe (cage-free scrambled eggs, bacon bits, cheddar cheese, chipotle aioli, $11.50). Or the Shrimp Avocado Crepe (seared shrimp, baby spinach, red pepper, julienned carrots, avocado, spicy mayo or sweet chili sauce, $11.50).
Eight Turn Crepe’s menu also includes gelato, bubble tea, fresh fruit tea, superfood smoothies, Japanese milkshakes and coffee drinks.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, the first 100 people through the door will receive a free Strawberry Banana Crepe, while the next 100 will get a coupon for 25% off their next visit. All crepes will be buy-one-get-one-free (equal or lesser value) the entire day. Then from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, all crepes will be buy-one-get-one-50%-off. Raffle prizes also are planned.
Outside Idaho, the closest Eight Turn Crepe is in Las Vegas. It rates an impressive 4.7 out of 5 stars on Google.
“Definitely a must try!” exclaims a recent 5-star review.
“Such a great find,” proclaims another, “especially if you’re gluten-free like me. Almost everything on the menu is GF, which is super rare! Everything I’ve tried so far has been really good and super filling. The staff is always friendly and helpful too. Definitely recommend checking this place out!”
