Here’s what plans to open where Idaho’s first-ever Del Taco closed in Boise

A familiar, vacant restaurant building in Southeast Boise will be reborn if all goes according to plan.

Paperwork has been filed with the city to reopen the former Del Taco at 1306 S. Broadway Ave. as a Mo’ Bettahs — serving Hawaiian-style cuisine such as teriyaki chicken and kalua pig.

The shuttered restaurant — Del Taco’s first location in Idaho, its general manager told the Statesman — closed in spring. “Thanks for 20 years,” a sign outside read.

The design firm handling the Mo’ Bettahs overhaul is “proposing minor tenant improvement to the existing Del Taco space,” it wrote in a project description, “with one new interior wall, new kitchen equipment, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and interior finishes. The exterior work is limited to painting existing stucco.”

Information about a target opening date was not immediately available.

Del Taco signs have been pulled off the exterior of the building, which would get repainted, according to the Mo’ Bettahs project description.

A fast-casual chain founded in 2008, Mo’ Bettahs operates Idaho locations in Meridian, Nampa, Twin Falls, Rexburg and Ammon, according to its website. The Utah-based brand has experienced fast growth in recent years and operates dozens of restaurants in multiple states.
