After ‘massive’ Meridian debut, California chain opens 2nd Boise area restaurant

When Wienerschnitzel opened a Meridian restaurant last year — returning to Idaho for the first time in over four decades — some folks practically did cartwheels.

“There was a massive wait at the drive-thru line,” one Google reviewer wrote, “but I learned from In-N-Out to just go stand in the wait line outside, which only took me about 30 minutes.”

Half an hour? For a freakin’ hot dog? Seriously?

Start lining up again, Wienerschnitzel fans. The California-based chain is about to launch its second locally owned franchise restaurant in the Boise area.

The Treasure Valley’s newest Wienerschnitzel will hold its grand opening Saturday at 110 Shannon Drive in Nampa. The restaurant’s hours will be 10 a.m. to midnight daily.

“Wienerschnitzel,” a press release explains, “has become synonymous with high-quality American comfort food, led by its signature chili recipe — a bean-free classic that has been a favorite for decades. The Nampa location’s menu will feature fan favorites, including Chili Cheese Dogs, Junkyard Dogs, Chili Cheese Fries and refreshing Southern Lemonades.

“Guests can also indulge in the Tastee-Freez dessert line, offering everything from chocolate-dipped cones to sundaes and shakes. Drive-thru, online ordering and delivery will be available at this location, with delivery available two to four weeks after (the) grand opening ... .”

Founded in 1961 as a California hot dog stand, Wienerschnitzel is the world’s biggest hot dog chain. Its parent company, Irvine-based Galardi Group Inc., franchises nearly 350 Wienerschnitzels in 10 states, according to the release.
