‘That’s so sad!’ Beloved longtime Boise restaurant and grocery store to close

One of Boise’s most unique sandwich purveyors soon will be no more.

Bosnia Express — BoEx for short — plans to close at the end of June, the mom-and-pop restaurant revealed on social media. Located at 4846 W. Emerald St. in a strip mall, the ethnic lunch destination is known for affordable, exceptional gyros and paninis — and a multi-tiered business concept.

“It’s a nightclub/neighborhood bar/grocery store/lunch spot ...” as BoEx explains online, and “full of surprises, chief of which is the large gyro sandwich prepared in a little corner near the front door.”

With BoEx’s days numbered, stock on its grocery shelves is dwindling. Bottles of wine are being sold at 50% off. “Everything must go,” BoEx wrote on Facebook. “... Help us sell our inventory! We still have lots of good deals!”

Commenters online expressed disappointment.

“No! You are one of my favorites!” one wrote on Facebook.

“That’s so sad!” another added. “Every time I was in Boise I would visit.”

No specific reason for shuttering was offered. But BoEx did comment that “it’s been almost 20 years, time to move on.”

Either way, those sandwiches will be missed. Bosnia Express is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars on Google and 4.7 out of 5 on Yelp.

“Best paninis in town!” a Google reviewer wrote. “We absolutely love the bread here, and the house panini is amazing!”

“Stop, stop, stop driving by!” a Yelp reviewer urged. “I was blown away by the treasure that’s within.”
