‘Absolutely terrible’: Thrashed by reviews, this longtime Meridian restaurant has closed
Normally, it’s sad when a local business says goodbye.
But, once in awhile, it’s just time.
Based on recent reviews, that was the predicament for Chinatown’s Quik-Wok Restaurant in Meridian. It closed this week at 3055 E. Fairview Ave.
A local chain, Quik-Wok continues to run locations in Boise and Kuna.
But a note on the door in Meridian informed patrons that it would no longer serve food starting Wednesday, Oct. 23. “We would like to express our gratitude to all of our devoted customers for their support over the past 23+ years,” Quik-Wok wrote, “it has been an amazing journey.”
Amazing, perhaps. But brutal, too. At least near the end. Another note on the door says that Quik-Wok already had closed its dining room and was offering takeout only.
And reviews were getting unpleasant, to say the least.
Quik-Wok in Meridian is rated 2.8 out of 5.0 stars on Google and (oof!) 1.9 out of 5.0 on Yelp. Half of its dozen Google reviews in 2024 were 1 star. All three Yelp reviews in 2024? Also 1 star.
Customers did not mince words. “Absolutely terrible,” reads one on Google. “Would give NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD!” grouses another.
Quik-Wok’s two remaining restaurants fare better. Somewhat. The one at 361 W. Main St. in Kuna rates a 3.8 out of 5.0 stars on Google and a 2.8 out of 5.0 on Yelp. Its store at 4858 W. Overland Road in Boise gets a 3.5 on Google and a 2.0 on Yelp.
Either way, disappointed diners should try to remember that online hatchet jobs can cut deeply. Running a restaurant is never easy.
On the other hand, Meridian’s Quik-Wok appeared to have run its course.
The restaurant’s equipment is being sold by Business Liquidation Auction.
