Opened 20 years ago, this downtown Boise restaurant just closed

A popular downtown Boise food and cocktail destination has gone dark for now.

A fire Tuesday night damaged the kitchen at Mai Thai, 750 W. Idaho St., the restaurant posted on social media.

The Asian-fusion concept has shuttered until further notice.

“Unfortunately, we will be closed as we undergo repairs,” Mai Thai wrote. “We do not have a time frame quite yet on when the repairs will be completed. We will continue to keep you updated on the status of when we’re able to reopen. Thank you for your patience during this time.”

A longtime Idaho Street staple, Mai Thai opened in November 2003. Locally owned and offering a full bar, it has earned over 1,100 Google reviews (4.2 out of 5.0 stars) and more than 550 Yelp reviews (3.8 out of 5.0 stars).
