One of Idaho’s ‘OG’ food trucks is no more. ‘Goodbye Boise! It’s been a fun 25 years’
One of Idaho’s “OG” food trucks has left Boise.
Brown Shuga Soul Food hasn’t closed in the traditional sense, but it won’t be serving its Southern cuisine in the Treasure Valley anymore.
It’s moving.
“House is up for sale,” owner and chef Yvonne Anderson-Thomas posted on Facebook. “Food truck is on the road.
“Goodbye Boise! It’s been a fun 25 years.”
A familiar site at festivals and food truck rallies, Brown Shuga Soul Food offered a menu of Southern cuisine ranging from ribs and turkey legs to baked beans and collard greens.
Anderson-Thomas was recognized as an Idaho Business Review Icon Award honoree in 2021. Brown Shuga Soul Food also was a featured vendor at the Southern Idaho Food Truck Association’s Feastival earlier this month at Memorial Stadium.
“Brown Shuga was one of Boise’s original OG food trucks,” the Feastival wrote on Instagram, “and chef Yvonne is a trail-blazing, inspirational woman!
It also shared a message from Anderson-Thomas, in which she said Brown Shugga “was one of the first four OG food trucks that started in Boise in 2011. We are celebrating 11 years as Brown Shuga Soul Food in June this year!
“My plans are to move to the South to expand my empire and get enough land to do a wedding/event center, have enough room to park all my rigs and have little or no neighbors if I don’t want!” she added with a laughter emoji.
“I thank all of the customers who have supported me over the years. If you are ever in South Carolina, look me up!”
