Borah taps coach with state championship to take over football program
Borah High School has hired a coach with a state championship to take over its varsity football program.
Daniel Jenkins was chosen to lead the Lions after spending the past six seasons at Nampa Christian, where he guided the Trojans to a 3A state championship in 2025.
“This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. These type of jobs don’t come open very often,” Jenkins told the Idaho Statesman. “The opportunity to coach a program with a rich history like Borah’s, I couldn’t pass that up.”
Jenkins, 38, compiled a record of 37-28 with the Trojans, including three consecutive unbeaten seasons in 3A Western Idaho Conference action.
Under his leadership, Nampa Christian qualified for the state playoffs four times, highlighted by a 36-30 overtime win against Ririe last fall to claim just the second state championship in program history. He was voted the 3A All-Idaho Coach of the Year in 2025.
Jenkins joined the Nampa Christian program in 2015 as an assistant coach and has spent his entire coaching career with the school aside from the 2019 season, when he coached at Parma.
The former high school running back, free safety and punter played one collegiate season at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, before transferring to Boise State, where he graduated in 2012.
“Everyone involved is really, really excited for this new opportunity for everyone,” Jenkins said. “The current staff that was there the last few years did a great job of really just setting a foundation. We just really want to continue what they did and just bring in a new philosophy, and start building this program back up to where everyone expects it to be.”
Jenkins replaces J.Q. Kenyon, who stepped down last month after five seasons, a 20-28 record and three playoff appearances.
