Prep football recap: Emmett stuns Middleton with wild comeback. Backup QB leads Centennial

The Emmett High football team scored 14 points in the final 65 seconds to complete a wild comeback and top Middleton 42-41 on the road.

With less than a minute to play and no timeouts left, Emmett defensive end Michael Sowle set up the go-ahead score with a strip-sack of Middleton quarterback Ky McClure. Three plays later, quarterback Caden Young scored on a 6-yard run as time expired, and kicker Jorge Rivera connected on the PAT to clinch No. 2 Emmett the win.

The victory keeps the Huskies (6-1, 5-0) unbeaten in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference with two games remaining in the regular season. Middleton (4-3, 3-2) falls into a three-way tie for third place.

Emmett was down 41-28 with under 6 minutes remaining in the game. Young, the reigning 4A All-Idaho Player of the Year, cut Middleton’s lead to 41-35 with 1:05 to go on a 16-yard pass to Caseyn Pearson.

Young ran for 280 yards and five TDs, adding a 7-for-10 performance with 83 yards and another score through the air. Jeff Lockett added 69 rushing yards. Middleton stats were not reported.

Rocky Mountain 30, Timberline 16

The Rocky Mountain (6-1, 3-0 5A SIC Foothills) defense kept Timberline out of the end zone in the second half to pull away.

Timberline led 9-6 in the first quarter and 16-9 midway through the second quarter in the upset bid. But the No. 3-ranked Grizzlies knotted the game at 16 going into halftime and then scored two more touchdowns in the second half to top Timberline for the 10th straight time.

Jackson Mason caught the go-ahead score on an 18-yard reception from Tegan Sweaney with 2:55 left in the third quarter, and freshman running back Taeshaun Reese added a little cushion for the Grizzlies with a 6-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Sweaney was 10-for-20 through the air for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

Timberline (4-3, 0-3 5A SIC Foothills) quarterback Wade Zenner and receiver Garrett Lavin teamed up for both of the Wolves’ touchdowns on passes of 27 and 25 yards. Zenner finished 15-for-24 for 177 yards, but he also tossed a pair of interceptions. Lavin caught five passes total for 94 yards.

Eagle 51, Skyview 14

Six different players scored touchdowns to help Eagle (5-2, 3-1 5A SIC Foothills) overwhelm Skyview (4-3, 0-3).

Quarterback Jack Benson went 17-for-21 passing for 265 yards with touchdown passes to Donovan Jones, Charles Fales and Smith Luedtke. But it was Ian Duarte who led all Eagle receivers with eight catches for 137 yards.

Eagle junior Deegan Martinho totaled 96 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while Brandon Reese and Roy Hull had one rushing TD apiece.

Atonio Fifita and Camden Young each scored one rushing TD for the Hawks. Fifita had 105 yards on the ground.

Meridian 48, Boise 7

Warriors quarterback Malakai Martinez went 8-for-11 for 86 yards and three first-half touchdowns in his return, leading Meridian (5-2) to a nonconference victory.

Kross Antonnacchi (164 yards, two TDs) and Marco Del Rio (106 yards, two TDs) both ran for more than 100 yards. Quentin Riley caught two touchdowns from Martinez, and Nathan Reynolds had the other.

Meridian led 42-7 at halftime before taking its foot off the gas. Stats were not reported for Boise (1-6), which has lost five in a row.

Centennial 35, Kuna 25

Centennial lost starting quarterback Keyon Horton to a separated shoulder just before halftime, but all was not lost.

Sophomore backup Marcus Connors kept his poise, running for a touchdown and a two-point conversion, and throwing a TD pass to Kyle Schabot to secure the win over Kuna (1-6, 1-3 5A SIC River).

Junior cornerback Jacob Carney had a pair of defensive TDs for the Patriots (2-5, 2-3), grabbing a pick-six interception and scoring a 99-yard fumble return.

No stats were provided for Kuna.

Nampa 55, Columbia 20

Nampa (3-4, 3-2 4A SIC) led early with three TDs in the first quarter. The Bulldogs stayed well ahead of Columbia (2-5, 2-3) the rest of the night, totaling 513 yards of offense.

Nampa’s Gabe Navarro threw for 194 yards, finding Trais Higgins for a pair of TDs. Higgins finished with 169 receiving yards, and Daniel Carrillo led the rushing effort with 166 yards and two TDs.

Columbia’s Trey Weaver led his team with 96 receiving yards and one TD. Manuel Variz ran for 43 yards, and Ikaika Ho scored the Wildcats’ only rushing TD.

Vallivue 34, Ridgevue 0

The Falcons (4-3, 3-2 4A SIC) forced five turnovers and held the Warhawks to 138 total yards for the shutout.

Quarterback Santi Diaz led the rout, running for three touchdowns and throwing for another to Cannon Hyde. Carson Fox added 19 carries for 147 yards and a TD, helping the Falcons to a 28-0 lead by halftime.

Ridgevue’s (0-6, 0-5) Cole McDonald passed for 99 yards but also threw three interceptions and lost a fumble.

Bishop Kelly 55, Caldwell 6

Seven games into the season, the 4A classification’s leading rusher doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Seth Knothe entered Friday’s game with 1,116 yards and 21 TDs on the ground, and he added 169 more yards and two more touchdowns on 15 carries in Bishop Kelly’s rout of Caldwell (0-7, 0-5 4A SIC).

Quarterback Hadley Smith took some of the focus off of Knothe by completing 9-of-12 passes for 126 yards with TD passes to James Bell and Jason Buss. Dean Tipton-Wade chipped in with 78 yards and a pair of TDs on six carries for the Knights (5-2, 4-1).

Caldwell’s lone score came with the game already decided when Zaylor Bruegeman found Cameron Morales for a 17-yard touchdown reception with 8:02 left in the fourth quarter. Bruegeman went 12-for-21 passing for 101 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Homedale 48, Payette 0

Hayden Kincheloe accounted for 343 of Homedale’s 399 rushing yards in a dominant win over Payette (3-4, 1-2 3A SRV).

It was the second straight shutout for the Homedale defense, which limited Payette to just 15 yards on the ground and 119 yards of total offense.

The No. 1-ranked Trojans (7-0, 3-0) scored six of their seven touchdowns on the ground between Kincheloe (4 TDs), Trenton Fisher and Andrew Marston. Homedale’s other TD came on a 63-yard punt return from Mason Strong.

Payette quarterback Abe Rodriguez was 15-for-32 through the air for 104 yards but was hampered by two interceptions.

Nampa Christian 28, Declo 20

The No. 5-ranked Trojans (6-1) scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to knock off perennial power and No. 4-ranked Declo (5-2) on its home field.

Dane Bradshaw broke a 20-20 tie with a 28-yard TD catch from Landon Cheney with 16 seconds left. Bradshaw killed the Hornets through the air and on the ground, finishing with 194 total yards and three TDs on 21 offensive touches.

Cheney finished 21-of-33 for 294 yards and two TDs to Bradshaw, and he ran for a 1-yard TD to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

Notus 54, Hagerman 12

Notus (6-1) raced out to a 48-0 lead by halftime and cruised to its fifth win in six games.

Three Pirates ran for 100-plus yards, led by Benny Guevara’s 135 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. Guevara also threw for a score and collected 15 tackles on defense.

Carter Woodland spearheaded the strong start, amassing 130 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries in the first quarter. Tristan Aspiazu added to the rout with eight carries for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Rimrock 44, Idaho City 0

Rimrock’s Gus Black trampled over the Idaho City defense for 270 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Quarterback Ronaldo Gomez added 103 passing yards, with TD tosses to Pedro Varela and Alex Martinez. Both receivers also dominated on defense. Varela had two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and returned an interception for a touchdown. Martinez had 11 total tackles, one fumble recovery and two interceptions.

Aden Aquiso led the Raiders (3-2, 2-1 1A D-I WIC) in tackles with 15.5, plus a forced fumble. No stats were provided for Idaho City (1-5, 1-2).

Salmon River 66, Meadows Valley 8

Salmon River (2-4) held the Mountaineers (0-3) to 37 total yards while quarterback Gabe Zavala had a hand in five touchdowns.

Zavala finished 8-of-12 for 120 yards and three TDs through the air, adding 86 yards and two more scores on the ground. Tyrus Swift caught two touchdowns and ran for another.
