Prep football recap: Meridian bounces back. Borah wins again. Two 1-point games in 4A SIC

Meridian’s defense rode to the rescue, forcing three interceptions and pitching a second-half shutout to lead the Warriors to a 15-7 win over Skyview.

Meridian (4-2, 2-1 5A SIC Foothills) fell into a 7-0 hole after Skyview’s Atonio Fifita scored a 2-yard touchdown run in the final second of the first quarter. But the Hawks never found the end zone again.

Tyson Acree put Meridian ahead for good in the third quarter with a 62-yard touchdown catch from freshman Zeke Martinez. And Kross Antonnacchi put the game away with a 2-yard TD run with 6:28 left in the fourth quarter.

Ashton Gardner picked off two passes, and Landon Eason also had an interception for Meridian, the state’s top defense. And Zeke Martinez finished 16-of-27 for 198 yards while continuing to fill in for his older brother, Malakai Martinez.

Eagle 32, Timberline 10

The Mustangs (4-2, 2-1 5A SIC Foothills) pitched a second-half shutout and scored the final 17 points to pull away.

Ian Duarte led the second-half effort, hauling in a 10-yard TD from Jack Benson to make it 22-10. He then returned a punt 73 yards in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.

He finished with seven catches for 94 yards. Roy Hull ran for 76 yards and a TD. And quarterback Jack Benson finished 8-of-15 for 96 yards.

Wade Zenner led Timberline (4-2, 0-2 5A SIC Foothills), completing 26-of-41 passes for 234 yards while running for a TD. Montana State commit Taylor Marcum finished with 101 yards on 17 touches.

Borah 27, Kuna 24

The Lions (3-3, 2-1 5A SIC River) mounted a fourth-quarter comeback Thursday to win their third straight.

Borah tailed 17-13 entering the final quarter. But Bradly Toth caught a 14-yard TD pass from Korbin McCarney to take the lead, and then Parker Rushton scored what proved to be the game-winner on a 5-yard run.

Rushton ran for 182 yards and two TDs on 31 carries. And McCarney finished 15-of-23 for 169 yards and two TDs.

Kuna’s Cole Luekenga found Brayden White for his second TD pass with 1:08 left. But it proved to be too little too late for the Kavemen (1-5, 1-2).

Luekenga finished 25-of-45 for 302 yards.

Capital 50, Boise 28

Max Clark threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns, and he ran for two more TDs as the Eagles (5-1) beat Boise for the 32nd straight time.

Kody Walk caught two TD passes, and Brody Call and Avery Downey contributed one each. Tucker French added a 17-yard interception return for a score.

Braden Anderson threw for 278 yards for Boise (1-5), including TD passes to Ford Songer (two) and Mason Lawyer (an 80-yarder).

Mountain View 57, Centennial 14

The No. 2-ranked Mavericks (6-0, 3-0 5A SIC River) forced five turnovers and racked up 507 yards of offense to run away.

Quintez Evans ran for 115 yards and three TDs. Dominic Sotomayer caught two TDs. And quarterback Dawson Wahl finished 10-of-17 for 216 yards and two TDs as Mountain View built a 37-7 halftime lead and stretched it to 57-7 entering the fourth quarter.

Keyon Horton and Orlando Clay Jr. each ran for a TD for Centennial (1-5, 1-3).

Rocky Mountain 51, Owyhee 14

Grizzlies quarterback Tegan Sweeney threw for 254 yards and four TDs to four different receivers, and he also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Rocky Mountain (5-1) put the game away early, building a 37-0 lead in the first quarter. Owyhee (0-6) avoided a shutout when Severin Bruga ran in a 5-yard score with 46 seconds left.

Nampa 39, Vallivue 38

The Bulldogs scored 11 points in the final 2 minutes, 29 seconds to stun the Falcons.

Nampa’s Lance Hanna nailed a 24-yard field goal with 2:29 to play to pull within 38-31. The Bulldogs got the ball back with enough time for Gabe Navarro to toss a 6-yard touchdown pass to Trais Higgins with just 16 seconds left.

Nampa (2-4, 2-2 4A SIC) then went for two and the win. Backup quarterback Peyton Gunter ran it in for the victory.

Navarro threw for 274 yards and two TDs, including 195 yards to Higgins. Ryan Schuler and Daniel Carillo added 112 rushing yards each for the Bulldogs, who led by 12 in the third quarter and trailed by 10 in the fourth in a back-and-forth affair.

Vallivue (3-3, 2-2 4A SIC) rushed for 253 yards spread across five players, topped by 89 yards and three touchdowns from Carson Fox.

Columbia 22, Ridgevue 21

Manuel Variz ran for a 3-yard TD to pull the Wildcats within one in the fourth quarter. And then Ikaika Ho punched in the two-point conversion to complete the dramatic win for Columbia (2-4, 2-2 4A SIC).

Ho ran for 98 yards on 23 carries, caught three passes for 36 yards and scored twice on two-point conversions. Columbia also got a key score on Nico Rodriguez’s 55-yard punt return in the second quarter.

Ridgevue’s Grayson Heil went 14-of-21 for 234 yards and three TDs to give the Warhawks a 21-14 lead in the third quarter. But Ridgevue (0-5, 0-4) couldn’t hold on.

Homedale 54, Parma 0

The No. 1-ranked Trojans (6-0, 2-0 3A SRV) only gave up 144 total yards and scored on every possession but the game’s final one.

Jaxon Dines finished 9-of-14 for 129 yards and three TDs, and Homedale running back Hayden Kincheloe ran for 105 yards and three TDs.

Homedale needed just 35 plays to rack up 398 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per play.

Nampa Christian 43, New Plymouth 16

The Trojans (5-1, 2-0 2A WIC) jumped out to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Dane Bradshaw ran for 214 yards and two TDs on 14 carries. Landon Cheney threw for 152 yards and two TDs. And Caleb Johnson led the defense, racking up 16 tackles.

Bailey Hite paced New Plymouth (2-3, 0-1) with 100 yards and a TD on 14 carries.

Notus 60, Idaho City 14

Carter Woodland ran for 212 yards and four TDs, and he made 10 tackles and forced a fumble to lead the Pirates (4-1, 1-0 1A D-I WIC).

Notus’ Kaden Clemens went 7-for-8 for 101 yards and three TDs. And Elijah Martin racked up 18 tackles to go with his 115 receiving yards and touchdown.

No stats were reported for Idaho City (1-4, 1-1).

Wilder 53, Greenleaf 14

Kyevan Gephart threw three touchdowns to three different receivers, Adrian Miramontes threw and caught a TD, and Hunter Onofrei made two interceptions for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-0 1A D-I WIC).

Horseshoe Bend 66, Salmon River 8

Kaelun Jones ran for 184 yards and four TDs as the Mustangs built a 44-0 lead in the second quarter and cruised from there.

Carson Drake threw for 112 yards and a TD, and Keegan Smith added six tackles and a sack for No. 3 Horseshoe Bend (5-0, 1-0 1A D-II Long Pin).

Tyus Swift scored the only touchdown for Salmon River (1-4, 0-2) on a 34-yard pass from Gabe Zavala.

Rimrock 54, Owyhee (Nev.) 22

Gus Black ran for 194 yards and two TDs, and he made 10.5 tackles and two sacks to lead the Pirates (1-2).

Quarterback Ronaldo Gomez had a hand in three touchdowns and finished with 165 total yards. Pedro Varela caught two TDs and returned an interception for a score. And Alex Martinez led the defense with 14 tackles and a 30-yard, pick-six interception.
