Prep football roundup: Vallivue QB has monster night in rivalry game; another 5A playoff bid clinched

Vallivue junior Lan Larison continued his prolific season, putting the Falcons on his back once again to lead them to a 49-20 win Friday at Ridgevue.

Larison did the bulk of his damage on the ground, running for 158 yards and three TDs. He also showcased his arm, completing 11-of-19 passes for 133 yards and two more scores.

The win solidifies Vallivue’s (5-2, 4-2 4A SIC) position in the playoff hunt. The Falcons sit fourth in the 4A SIC with two tough games to end the season (Middleton and Nampa). The top five teams qualify for the postseason.

Carson Child added 134 rushing yards and two TDs as Vallivue racked up 530 yards against its district rival, including 397 on the ground.

Michael Sondermann ran for 196 yards and two TDs to pace Ridgevue (2-5, 2-4), which must win its final two games to have a chance of making the playoffs.

CAPITAL 35, CENTENNIAL 21

Capital (5-2) punched its ticket to the 5A playoffs for the 12th straight year behind the Ryan Hibbs-to-Jonah Blackham connection.

Blackham caught five passes for 175 yards and two TDs while Hibbs completed 14-of-22 passes for 288 yards. Hibbs also ran for a game-high 61 yards and scored another TD on the ground.

The duo kept Centennial (2-5) and its aerial threat at bay as Patriots quarterback Dayne Koch went 30-of-51 for 368 yards and three TDs. Caden Clark did most of the damage, finishing with 13 catches for 194 yards and two TDs.

SKYVIEW 55, TIMBERLINE 27

Skyview (4-3) showcased its offensive prowess on the ground and through the air, racking up 535 total yards of offense to bolster its playoff odds.

Tyler Crowe ran for 199 yards and three TDs on 12 carries, while quarterback Wyatt Storer kept Timberline off balance, completing 17-of-26 passes for 246 yards and four TDs. Wade Carpenter served as his favorite target, turning eight catches into 133 yards and two TDs.

Timberline (0-7) kept it close through the first quarter, trailing 21-15. But the Hawks scored 34 unanswered points to run away.

Ed Osterberger ran for 211 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wolves.

MERIDIAN 42, BOISE 29

Meridian (3-4) picked up a much-needed win to boost its playoff chances. Boise fell to 0-7. No details were reported.

EMMETT 36, CALDWELL 16

Dylan Bemis threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns, and he added a rushing touchdown to lead Emmett (1-6, 1-5 4A SIC) to its first win under first-year coach Rich Hargitt.

Brett Kern caught six passes for 79 yards and two TDs, but Monte Zufelt led the way with nine grabs for 117 yards.

Andres Begne served as the highlight for Caldwell (0-7, 0-7), completing 19-of-34 passes for 191 yards and a TD.

IDAHO FALLS 20, COLUMBIA 14

Idaho Falls snuffed out the Wildcats’ rally with a late interception, capping a dominant defensive night in a nonconference game.

Idaho Falls (4-3) held Columbia (3-4) to 157 yards of offense, including just 74 rushing yards from Allamar Alexander, the 4A classification’s leading rusher.

DECLO 43, FRUITLAND 14

Boise State commit Keegan Duncan scored three touchdowns for Declo (6-0), the No. 1-ranked team in 2A, which knocked off 3A power Fruitland (4-3).

After winning back-to-back state titles and 21 straight games, Fruitland has lost three of its last four.

NEW PLYMOUTH 28, MCCALL-DONNELLY 7

New Plymouth jumped out to a 19-0 lead and held the Vandals to 168 total yards in a battle atop the 2A WIC standings.

New Plymouth (4-2, 3-0) ran for 264 yards, including 139 yards and two TDs from Seth Mowder and 125 yards from quarterback Kobe Roberts. Roberts also threw for 112 yards and two scores to help the Pilgrims clinch a playoff berth.

MELBA 48, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 16

The duo of quarterback Dallin Forsgren and fullback Easton Bunnell combined to lead the Mustangs (3-3, 2-1 2A WIC) to a conference win. No other details were reported.

ABERDEEN 67, MARSING 18

Visiting Aberdeen steamrolled the Huskies (1-5) in a nonconference game. No details were reported.

WILDER 52, NOTUS 8

Wilder’s defense stepped up, holding Notus (2-4, 0-3) to 94 total yards.

Pablo Martinez went 8-for-11 for 162 yards and three TDs to lead Wilder (5-1, 2-1 1A DI WIC). He also ran for another score as nine Wildcats combined to run for 236 yards at 9.1 yards per carry.

IDAHO CITY 66, RIMROCK 20

The Wildcats (5-0, 3-0 1A DI WIC) continued their undefeated season by routing conference foe Rimrock (2-4, 1-2). No details were reported.

CAREY 74, GARDEN VALLEY 36

Defending state champ and No. 1-ranked Carey (6-0) rolled to its 18th straight win in a nonconference game. No details were reported.

SALMON RIVER 52, CASCADE 0

Salmon River (3-3) posted a shutout to improve to 2-0 in the 1A Division II Long Pin Conference. No details were reported.

TRI-VALLEY 22, HORSESHOE BEND 12

Tri-Valley (2-3, 1-1 1A DII Long Pin) snapped a three-game losing streak. No details were reported.
