Prep basketball recap: Meridian wins fifth straight. Timberline holds on to 2nd in 6A SIC
With the high school boys basketball regular season wrapping up next week, the 6A Southern Idaho Conference hierarchy is coming into focus.
Owyhee, which was idle Wednesday, remains unbeaten in league play, but the battle for second is a tight affair.
Meridian, Timberline, Centennial, Eagle and Mountain View each won games Wednesday night, giving the Wolves a one-game lead over Capital for second place.
Here are Wednesday’s top highlights and top performers from the Boise region.
6A SIC BOYS BASKETBALL
MERIDIAN 53, BORAH 39: After losing three of their first four games to start the season, the Warriors have now won five in a row to move into fourth in the 6A SIC standings. The top four teams from the regular season receive a first-round bye in the district tournament.
Seniors McKoy Thompson (15 points), Tristan Fortin (14 points) and Hunter White (12 points, 11 rebounds) each scored in double figures as Meridian (11-8, 5-4) forced 19 Borah turnovers, which the Warriors converted to 21 points.
Borah (8-10, 3-6) was led by senior guard Colton Dennis with 10 points, three assists and two steals.
TIMBERLINE 52, BOISE 43: The Wolves maintained their hold on second place in the 6A SIC standings with a victory over the Brave (8-11, 4-5).

CENTENNIAL 77, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 68: Sitting in fifth place with one regular-season game remaining, the Patriots are on the outside looking in.
To capture a bye in the district tournament, Centennial (12-7, 5-5) must win its final game against Mountain View on Friday and hope some of the teams above it in the standings falter.
Centennial junior guard Gabe Eddins tallied a game-leading 24 points with six assists, five rebounds and one steal, and senior Chase Tibbets (17) and Payton Knudson (13) each chipped in with double-digit scoring.
Stats were not reported for Rocky Mountain (10-9, 4-5).
EAGLE 58, KUNA 50: The Mustangs sank 8-of-16 from 3-point range to give them the edge over the Kavemen (11-8, 4-5).
Freshman guard Lucas Kunz made three triples for Eagle (11-8, 3-6), while sophomore guard Bryant Bigelow and freshman guard Aiden Kindrick each made two, and senior Treyson Anderson made one. Bigelow led all scorers with 17 points.
