Prep basketball recap: Four teams survive elimination day in 6A SIC girls tournament

The postseason for Treasure Valley girls basketball teams came into clear focus Tuesday as the 6A SIC hosted its play-in round and the 5A SIC finalized its playoff bracket.

Timberline, Rocky Mountain, Ridgevue and Capital staved off elimination in the 6A SIC tournament, ending the seasons of Meridian, Centennial, Kuna and Mountain View.

Here are Tuesday’s top highlights and top performers from the Boise region.

6A SIC GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

TIMBERLINE 64, MERIDIAN 51: Fanci Sackett posted a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the fifth-seeded Wolves to a do-or-die win over No. 12 Meridian.

Sackett sank 6-of-12 field goals and added three assists, and Ashlyn Granklanoff added a team-high 19 points for Timberline.

The Wolves (14-8) advance to face No. 4 Eagle (17-4) in the first round of the district tournament at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rocky Mountain.

Kiet Martinez scored a game-high 25 points for Meridian, which ended its season at 3-19.

RIDGEVUE 52, KUNA 40: The 10th-seeded Warhawks pulled off the only upset of the 6A SIC’s play-in round, knocking off seventh-seeded Kuna on its home floor.

Myra Martinez led the way with 14 points and three assists. McKenna Durrant added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Emma Bratvold chipped in 10 points to lead a balanced scoring sheet.

Ridgevue (10-12) advances to face top-seeded Owyhee (20-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Kuna in the first round of the district tournament.

Jaeda Morrison had 14 points and four rebounds in the season-ending loss for Kuna (9-13).

ROCKY MOUNTAIN, CAPITAL ADVANCE: Rocky Mountain topped Centennial 53-41, and Capital beat Mountain View 56-48 elsewhere in play-in action Tuesday.

No stats were reported for either game.

Girls basketball

Fanci Sackett, Timberline: The sophomore forward notched a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds, including shooting 6-of-12 from the floor, while adding three assists in the Wolves’ 64-51 win over Meridian.

Olivia Blackwell, Middleton: The sophomore guard was near perfect from the field, sinking 10-of-11 attempts for a game-high 22 points in the Vikings’ 94-16 rout of Nampa. Blackwell also added four steals, two rebounds and one assist as Middleton wrapped up an undefeated conference season.

Addy Bayne, Columbia: Collected a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds to help the Wildcats defeat Caldwell 47-36. The 6-foot-3 senior forward also had three blocks, one assist and one steal.

Natalie Goslin, Emmett: Pulled down 14 rebounds to go with 18 points, two steals and a blocked shot in the Huskies’ 44-20 victory over Skyview. The senior forward made 6-of-13 from the field.

Boys basketball

Boden Howell, Owyhee: Racked up 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 74-56 win over Capital in a battle atop the 6A SIC standings.

Benny Guevara, Notus: Posted 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals in a 66-55 win against Council.
