2A All-Idaho boys basketball team | 2023-2024

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: TYSON HUGHES, AMBROSE

The pick: The 6-3 senior point guard led the Archers in scoring (19.3 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg) and assists (3.9 apg) on their way to a state championship, while also adding 2.5 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

Coach’s comment: “Tyson is the ultimate competitor. … He is so mentally tough that he was vomiting all Friday night prior to the state championship game on Saturday with the flu, and went out and led us to a state championship while earning MVP,” Ambrose coach Ken Sugarman said.

What others are saying: “(He) followed up a great regular season with a standout performance in the state tournament. The type of player every coach would love to have on their team,” Declo coach Jacoby Fox said.

What’s next: Hughes does not plan to play at the next level, but will attend college.
