2A All-Idaho girls basketball team | 2023-2024

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: BROOKLYN DAYLEY, MELBA

The pick: The 5-6 senior point guard finished her career with 1,157 points while setting program records for career assists (483) and steals (553), and the single-game record for points (37). She averaged 18.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 7.7 steals per game to lead the Mustangs to the consolation championship at state.

Coach’s comment: “She is a player who makes those around her better with her passing and decision making, but is also able to take over games with her scoring when she needs to,” Melba coach David Lenz said.

What others are saying: “She takes smart shots, gets her teammates involved, and is one of the best defenders at any level,” Compass Charter coach Adam Mastalski said.

What’s next: Dayley has signed with Weber State to run track.

Melba senior Brooklyn Dayley was voted the 2A All-Idaho Player of the Year by the state’s coaches.

SAYDEE SHAUL, BEAR LAKE

Size was not a factor for the 5-5 junior point guard, who made her mark for the state champions by averaging a team-leading 17 points per game at the tournament. During the 2023-24 season, she contributed 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.9 steals per game.

JINETTIE GARBETT, SODA SPRINGS

She’ll compete at the next level in track for Idaho State, but the 6-0 senior wing was a force on the hardwood. Garbett, a two-time first-team pick, averaged a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks per game.

HADLEY FRAAS, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

Back on the first team for the second year in a row, the 5-11 senior forward played a key role in the Chargers’ third-place finish at state. Fraas, the co-player of the year in the 2A WIC, averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 2 assists per game.

TRINITY HOLSINGER, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

“Tough, smart and competitive,” according to Cole Valley coach Matt Beglinger, Holsinger was the only sophomore to make the 2A team this season. The 5-7 sophomore point guard posted averages of 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

COACH OF THE YEAR: KENNY WELLS, BEAR LAKE

He guided the Bears to their second state championship in program history and first since 1999.
