4A All-Idaho boys basketball team: Prolific guards, dominant big man among state’s best

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: JULIAN BOWIE, POCATELLO

The pick: The player of the year for the second straight season, the 6-3 senior guard led the Thunder to a state title while averaging 20.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He finished his career with 2,100 points, a school record.

Coach’s comment: “He has unlimited range, a great pull-up game, and scores at the rim with ease. He does a great job of getting his teammates shots, but also will take over a game if needed. He seemed to play his best basketball against the best competition as well,” Pocatello coach Joe Green said.

What others are saying: “You don’t know how good he is until you have to play against him. He is physically imposing and gets anywhere he wants with the ball,” Sandpoint coach Brian Childs said.

What’s next: Bowie has signed with Boise State.

ISAAC DAVIS, HILLCREST

An imposing big man at 6-7, Davis poured in 16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the runner-up Knights to earn first-team recognition for the third year in a row. He also shot 68% from the floor (121-of-177). Davis has signed to play next season at BYU.

IKE SUTTON, HILLCREST

After getting overshadowed in previous seasons by a talent-heavy roster, the 5-10 point guard shined as a senior, contributing 16.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Sutton will compete next season for Hawaii Pacific University.

REGGIE LARSEN, PRESTON

Although Preston didn’t make the state tournament, the 6-3 junior guard caught the eye of coaches throughout the state. He was deadly from 3-point range, knocking down 65-of-149 attempts (44%) while averaging 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

KESLER VAUGHAN, POCATELLO

The four-year letterman went out with a bang, helping the Thunder win a state championship. Vaughan, a 5-11 point guard, averaged 10.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He also shot 45-for-122 from beyond the arc (37%).

COACH OF THE YEAR: JOE GREEN, POCATELLO

Green guided the Thunder to a 22-5 record and the first state championship since 2000.
