PLAYER OF THE YEAR: TEAGUE MATTHEWS, ROCKLAND

Why he is player of the year: The 6-foot-6 junior center remained an unstoppable force to repeat as the player of the year. He led the Bulldogs to a third-place state finish, racking up 15.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.5 steals and 3.1 blocks per game.

Coach’s comment: “He made things miserable for players who went to the basket. … Offensively, he is an old-school post with great footwork and little hooks that couldn’t be touched,” Rockland coach Shae Neal said.

What others are saying: “Teague is an absolute beast on the court in every aspect. He can score, defend, rebound and pass. When I felt like we defended him well, he still had big games,” Grace Lutheran coach Jeremy Hess said.

What’s next: He returns for his senior year and a possible third player of the year award.

LUKE DALTON, RICHFIELD

The 5-11 senior wing led the Tigers to the state finals for the second time in program history. Richfield turned to him whenever it needed a big shot, and he delivered time and time again. He shot 55% from the floor to average 17.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

JAGGER HEWETT, KENDRICK

After leading the Tigers to back-to-back state football titles, the 5-10 senior point guard added another one on the hardwood. He served as the team’s spark plug on both sides of the floor. He posted 13.2 points, 5.5 assists and 6.0 steals per game.

CLAY KENT, RICHFIELD

The 6-foot senior wing provided the Tigers with a jack-of-all-trades, one capable of banging in the post, locking down top scorers or taking over the game when needed. That resulted in a well-rounded stat line of 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

DANIEL CANFIELD, WATERSPRINGS

Most know the 6-2 senior point guard as a pure scorer, and he filled that role well (18.1 ppg). But it took more than lighting up the scoreboard to lead the Warriors to their first state tournament. The floor general also added 7.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals.

COACH OF THE YEAR: TIM SILFLOW, KENDRICK

He led the football powerhouse to its first boys basketball state championship since 1985.
