PLAYER OF THE YEAR: TEAGUE MATTHEWS, ROCKLAND

Why he is player of the year: The 6-5 sophomore center found no match this season while leading the Bulldogs to a state title. He struck fear into the heart of opponents inside the paint, and he had the athleticism and ball skills to dominate on the perimeter too. He averaged a double-double of 17.8 points and 11.2 rebounds, adding 2.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 3.3 blocks per game too.

Coach’s comment: “He is a phenomenal post player and caused teams to double and sometimes triple him when he touched the ball,” Rockland coach Shae Neal said.

What others are saying: “To have the frame he has, and move the way he does, is very special,” Deary coach Jalen Kirk said.

What’s next: He has two more years of high school eligibility left.

BREKEN CLARKE, CAMAS COUNTY

The 5-11 senior guard carried the Mushers to a second-place finish at state, their best since 1978. He shouldered the scoring load (16.5 ppg). But he also did the dirty work on the glass (6.2 rebounds), distributed the ball (3.0 assists) and drew tough defensive assignments (2.4 steals).

BRIGHAM PERMANN, ROCKLAND

Known as a defensive ace, the 6-2 junior guard more than held his own on the offensive end with 15.6 points per game. The Bulldogs used his athleticism and basketball IQ all over the floor. He added 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 5.4 steals and 1.2 blocks to stuff the stat sheet.

CARSN PERKES, CAREY

The Panthers could always count on the 6-1 junior wing to deliver a big basket whenever they needed one. He poured in 19.3 points per game with a nonstop motor. But he also had 10.0 rebounds per game to average a double-double, and he added 2.0 steals a night.

BRIDGER HATCH, NORTH GEM

The 5-9 senior guard took over the game on both ends of the floor with scoring streaks and his defensive quickness. He raised his game to the next level at state, leading the Cowboys to the consolation title. He averaged 17.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals.

COACH OF THE YEAR: SHAE NEAL, ROCKLAND

He built the state’s top defense in all classes at 31.0 points per game en route to a state title.
