Boys High School Basketball

2A All-Idaho boys basketball team | 2020

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: JORDAN LENZ, NORTH FREMONT

Why he is player of the year: North Fremont doesn’t have much basketball history. But the 6-foot sophomore guard led the Huskies to the second state title in school history. He did everything for his team, averaging 15.0 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals.

Coach’s comment: “(He) is a very explosive scorer and is a very smooth basketball player, easily one of the best players in the state,” North Fremont coach Shannon Hill said.

What others are saying: “He may not be the flashiest kid that people remember for the eye-popping plays, but he is the one kid I would want to start my team with,” West Jefferson coach Dave Hadley said.

What’s next: He will return for his junior season looking for more championship banners.

HAYDON HARMON, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

The 6-3 forward only started playing basketball as a sophomore, but he finished his senior year leading his team in scoring (13.3 per game) and rebounding (7.3) while shooting 49 percent from the floor. His nose for the ball and the hoop was unmatched.

ISAAC FRANKMAN, WEST SIDE

The 6-foot senior center gave up a few inches to opponents every night. But he played larger than his frame and out-hustled larger posts, racking up 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds to lead the Pirates to the state runner-up finish.

JACOB ANKENY, MARSING

The 2A WIC Player of the Year used his 6-8 size to block 3.2 shots a game and get 10.4 rebounds for a defense that only gave up 38 points per game. The junior scored 11.2 points per game and was responsible for a quarter of Marsing’s points.

JORDAN HESS, NORTH FREMONT

The second part of the Huskies’ one-two punch scored 22 points in the state semifinals. The senior’s 11.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game were crucial during the tournament when defenses keyed in on Jordan Lenz, the player of the year.

COACH OF THE YEAR: SHANNON HILL, NORTH FREMONT

North Fremont’s only two state championships have come under Hill the last two years.
