2A All-Idaho girls basketball team | 2020

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: SADIE GRONNING, SODA SPRINGS

Why she is player of the year: A three-time, first-team All-Idaho pick and the unanimous player of the year, she holds a 101-7 record and finished with 1,556 career points. This year, she averaged 18.9 points per game, as well as 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists while leading her team to its third straight state championship.

Coach’s comment: “(She) is an all-around, great player. She does not look for, or desire, individual glory. She simply wants her team to win,” Soda Springs coach Wade Schvaneveldt said.

What others are saying: “She knows how to get the job done. Smart both offensively and defensively,” West Jefferson coach Jalena Dixon said.

What’s next: Gronning will play at the College of Southern Idaho next year.

JORIANNE BALLS, SODA SPRINGS

A key player in Soda Springs’ three-peat, she was a center who stretched the floor with 14.1 points per game and 39% shooting from the 3-point line. The senior’s shooting skills as a 5-11 center continually troubled defenses.

KATE CLARK, MELBA

The 5-7 junior guard set a program record for 3-pointers in a season and in a career en route to a third-place finish at state. She led her team in points with 16.2 per game and was second in assists (2.4) and steals (3.3).

ELLIE FRAAS, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

The 6-foot sophomore guard created so much defensive havoc, the Chargers couldn’t take her off the floor. She broke out this season with 11.7 points and 2.8 steals per game for the state runner-up. And she has two years left to continue to grow.

MADELINE COOKE, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

One of the best centers in 2A, the 6-4 senior was constantly double teamed by opposing defenses to keep her off the boards and stop easy buckets in the post. She averaged 8.8 points per game and added 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

COACH OF THE YEAR: WADE SCHVANEVELDT, SODA SPRINGS

He has built one of the state’s premier programs with three straight state titles.
