Former Oregon State, Idaho prep standout Slocum will finish college career with SEC team
Former Mountain View High standout Destiny Slocum is going to finish her women’s college basketball career as a Razorback.
Slocum made the announcement Saturday on Twitter that she’s “Headed to the Hill” to play for Arkansas. On April 2, Slocum entered her name in the NCAA transfer portal following three years at Oregon State.
Current Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors recruited Slocum in high school while he was the head coach at the University of Washington. Shortly after Slocum’s announcement, Neighbors tweeted a GIF of himself doing a celebratory fist pump.
The honorable mention WBCA All-American point guard is a graduate transfer and will be immediately eligible to play her final collegiate season with the Razorbacks. Slocum led the nationally ranked Beavers in 2019-20 at 14.9 points and 4.7 assists per game. She started 66 straight games over the last two seasons for OSU, and her 507 career assists are second-most in the nation among active players returning next season.
Arkansas will be the third college team Slocum has played for. She spent one season at Maryland and was named the national freshman of the year before transferring to Oregon State.
Slocum, a 2016 Mountain View High graduate, remains one of the most decorated Idaho girls basketball players of all time. She won a gold medal with the U.S. women’s team at the FIBA U19 World Championship in 2015, was named a McDonald’s All-American and led the Mavericks to back-to-back 5A state championships.
Slocum joins an Arkansas squad that finished the coronavirus-shortened 2019-20 season ranked No. 24 in the final Associated Press poll. The Razorbacks (24-8) fell to top-ranked South Carolina in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament, but they were expected to receive an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.
