BOYS SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Horacio Hernandez, Caldwell: Posted two shutouts and stopped four shootout attempts to carry the Cougars to their first state title in Idaho’s top classification.
Christian Griffith, Borah: Didn’t allow a goal in three games and saved a pair of shootout attempts in both the semifinals and finals to lead the Lions to a second-place state tournament trophy, their best finish since 2017.
Xabi Robertson, Boise: Scored a golden goal in double overtime to lift the No. 8 Brave to a 2-1 upset victory over No. 1 Rocky Mountain in the first round of the 6A state tournament.
Landon Frei, Mountain View: Recorded a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Owyhee for the consolation trophy, and added another goal in a first-round loss to Caldwell to finish with four goals at state.
Greyson Pew, Owyhee: Scored the game-winning goal in an elimination victory over Rocky Mountain, and played every minute of all three games at center back.
Marcos Madrigal, Vallivue: Had a hand in both goals in a 2-0, first-round win over Pocatello with a goal and an assist. He added another goal in 4-1 win over Twin Falls in the semifinals to help lead the Falcons to a second-place trophy.
Jose Manuel, McCall-Donnelly: Buried both goals for the Vandals in a 2-1 win over Wendell in the 4A state semifinals, lifting McCall-Donnelly to a second-place finish.
