Idaho boys soccer state title game postponed. Why? And when will it resume?

Caldwell and Borah battled for 56 minutes through rain and a host of storms Saturday night. But a pair of lightning delays postponed the 6A boys soccer state championship game.

The two teams will resume their title match at 7 p.m. Monday back at Rocky Mountain. The score will remain unchanged at 0-0, and the Lions and Cougars will play out the final 24 minutes to decide the state title.

A host of lightning strikes first forced an hour-long delay 17 minutes into the game. Julie Hammons, an assistant director with the Idaho High School Activities Association, said both schools agreed to postpone the game if the weather forced another delay. And the lightning returned midway through the second half.

Caldwell Athletic Director Jon Hallock said both schools were concerned about player safety with constant stops and restarts on a wet field.

No. 4 seed Borah (15-4-1) is playing for its first state title since 2017, while No. 6 seed Caldwell (15-6-2) reached the finals for the first time in the state’s top classification since the IHSAA began sponsoring a state tournament in 2000.
