5A BOYS SOCCER STATE TOURNAMENT
BOISE 1, EAGLE 0 (OT): A scoreless 80 minutes at Hillcrest High forced overtime between the Southern Idaho Conference foes. But a Brave (16-1-3) interception by Jacob Samuelsen three minutes into the extra period led to Daniel Hirai’s golden goal, helping No. 2-seeded Boise (16-1-3) get back to the state semifinals for the third straight year.
“The team started slow, but as the game went along, the chances started coming,” Boise coach Mike Darrow said. “Early in the first overtime, we pressured deep in (Eagle’s) half, and Jacob stole the ball and slipped it across to Hirai, who put a left-footed shot into the side netting.”
Boise goalkeeper Eli Brockl made two saves to hold off the No. 7-seeded Mustangs (12-7-1).
Boise will meet Thunder Ridge in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday. Eagle will face Borah in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Friday.
THUNDER RIDGE 2, BORAH 1: The No. 3-seeded Titans (16-0-1) continued their unbeaten season by defeating the No. 6-seeded Lions (11-6-2), avenging last season’s consolation championship loss in penalty kicks.
Tyler Thompson got Thunder Ridge on the board first in the ninth minute. Borah’s Michael Palsulich leveled the score just before the break. But Dallin Serr responded with the winning goal in the 49th minute, with Marco Acosta providing assists on both goals.
Goalkeeper Andre Castanenda recorded five saves for Thunder Ridge. Borah’s Christian Griffith made three saves.
TIMBERLINE 3, MADISON 1: Mikey Havelange put the No. 8-seeded Bobcats (8-11) ahead just five minutes in. But the top-seeded Wolves (18-0-2) rallied with three goals to avoid the upset bid.
Timberline’s Zayne Davis evened the score with a volley off a Quintin Boggs corner kick in the 36th minute. Boggs notched another assist in the 62nd minute on the game-winning score from Jake Anderson.
Davis added a 73rd-minute insurance goal to put Madison away. Timberline led 30-4 in shots, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
“(The early deficit) was really just a question of keeping our composure after giving up a goal against the run of play,” Timberline coach Adrian Kane said. “We asked the boys to lift each other up, continue to believe in themselves and play for each other. And that’s exactly how they got themselves back into the game.”
Timberline heads to the semifinals to take on No. 5 Lake City (11-4-1) at 3 p.m. Friday.

CALDWELL 2, WOOD RIVER 0: Sam Yeakley provided a goal and an assist, muscling the No. 2-seeded Cougars (18-0-1) past No. 7 Wood River (14-3-2) at Real Life Fields in Post Falls.
Axel Gonzalez notched a second goal in the win. And Horacio Hernandez had six saves for his fifth shutout in the last six games.
“(Wood River) is a fast and aggressive team, but we played really well,” Caldwell coach Rhys Yeakley said. “We limited their set pieces and corners, and they really didn’t have a great look at goal the whole game. The defense was just lights out once again.”
Caldwell will take on No. 3 Idaho Falls (14-2-1) in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday.
BISHOP KELLY 1, SANDPOINT 0 (OT): Bishop Kelly’s Colton Crawford set up Andrew Nguyen’s golden goal to guide the No. 8-seeded Knights (9-5-6) to an upset win over No. 1 Sandpoint (11-1-3).
The Bulldogs led 5-4 in shots on goal, but Knights goalkeeper Justin McGrew turned away all five shots to earn the shutout. Sandpoint goalkeeper Kai Longanecker had three saves.
Bishop Kelly will face No. 4 Blackfoot (13-3-1) in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Friday.
